Board Members challenged to a broader witness
Jim Gerren
During the opening devotional at the Spring board meeting in late February, Board Member Jim Gerren of Lincoln, IL gave a very forceful presentation concerning the witnessing opportunities available in the business world. "My approach is to involve each of you in the witness ministry in the secular marketplace," he said.
"I've probably had more opportunity to announce the presence of Christ in the workplace than in the Church. As a bi-vocational pastor for 20 years, I've observed a lot of things in the church and in business that tell me Christ is needed in both places."
"Today, there is more of an inquisitive nature among non-believers who are set in their ways. My pastoral background has given me a much broader ministry than I ever imagined."
Jim emphasized that we do represent Christ in the way we treat one another, no matter how difficult the situation is or where it might be. Every time we offer any kind of support, whether it is physical, spiritual, financial, or emotional, as often as we do it in the name of Christ, we have participated with Jesus in ministry.
