Benefit Golf Tournament is sponsored by MTM at Kings Mill Resort Golf Course
Diehard golfers gathered in November at the Kings Mill Resort Golf Course in Williamsburg, VA. The day was sunny but brisk -- a nice winter day for a round of very "serious" competitive golf John Carpenter, MTM's development director, organized the benefit golf tournament to 'test the water as a funds raiser for MTM".
They came from Richmond, VA, Newport News, VA, Buckingham, VA and Myrtle Beach, SC. Assistant Trustee Steve Richardson greeted team members at the registration table. Steve also gave them information about the golf course and the events of the day.
The day's events included the round of golf the Awards Ceremony and a BBQ chicken dinner at the Plantation Pavilion. Charles Chandler, MTM Executive Director, made the award presentations to the first, second and third team winners in the golf competition.
First place trophy was presented to Team Captain Arch Wallace for the Richmond team; second place to Team Captain James White for the Newport News team, and third place to Team Captain David Donohue for the Buckingham team.
Summing up the day, John Carpenter said, "The participants had a good time, enjoyed playing on a PGA course and liked the friendly atmosphere of the day. They sure did ask a lot of questions about MTM! I think the event has been highly positive and certainly worth doing again."
Steve Richardson tried to enlist one of the Kings Mill staff to play in the MTM tournament. Steve handled the Registration for the tournament and said that a doctor who planned to play, had been called in to do emergency surgery but had sent his entry fee in any way. "I was just trying to help the team captain fill the doctor's spot," laughed the every energetic Steve.
The team winning second place in the MTM tournament was from Newport News. Team members are Ray Boyette, Steve Stallings, Jim White and Mike Brown.
