Meet Your New Editor . . . Julius Caesar!

My hairdresser decided to experiment the day I had my portrait taken at church. Some think I resemble an aging Julius Caesar! I am aging, but I prefer to resemble an aging Tom Cruise or Tom Selleck! Nevertheless, Bill Trimyer is my name and assuming the role as editor of The Servant is my new game!

It is my pleasure to serve in this capacity because I believe wholeheartedly in the mission of MTM. I have been involved with MTM ever since it was conceived by Charles Chandler, our Executive Director. I remain sold on the value of this ministry to hurting clergy and their families.

I am a gentleman farmer who raises a variety of vegetables and fruits. My farm, nestled in the foothills of Virginia, has a big "doghouse" in the woods that I have been building for the past five years. I love Harry Potter books and travel. For the past four years I've taken students to Israel, Egypt and Greece. Last summer I spent five weeks in northern Israel on an archaeological dig at Banias (Caesarea Philippi). What an incredible experience!

I am a collector of Elvis stamps and Santa Claus figures. Anyone who does not believe in Santa Claus is an infidel in my book! In my former life I was a carpenter and painter until I laid down my hammer and brush and picked up a Bible and went to preaching. I have been a pastor, hospital chaplain, pastoral counselor, and now a college professor. Not too shabby, I suppose, for a guy they basically let out of high school!

It is unfortunate that I have to wear several mantles to support my habits and passion for travel. I earn my keep as a religion professor at Averett College. I teach in the adult program for our school and travel to numerous sites in Virginia to teach religion, psychology and conflict management. In addition, I teach part-time at Danville Community College. Not finished yet! I also have a part-time pastoral counseling practice. And sometimes I pinch hit as an interim pastor.

I am married and have helped put two adult sons through college and graduate school. You know the rest of the story and why I have been juggling three jobs! They live in sunny Floridaaaaaah and have a social life far different from mine! Brian is an attorney and Brandon is a headhunter of sorts.

Trying on this new "hat" as editor of The Servant will add a new dimension to my appreciation for servants and their families who are struggling with the hurt of forced termination from their places of ministry.

Incidentally, I bear the scars and grief of my own experience.
